Executive director of LifeSTEPS, Inc., in Fair Oaks, California, Beth Southorn possesses more than 20 years of experience in the social services field. Prior to joining LifeSTEPS, she served as program director and training manager for Shelter Network of San Mateo County, California, where she directed the operations of the transitional and emergency homeless shelter. As an employment services supervisor and vocational counselor with Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin counties, Beth Southorn developed occupational education curriculum, trained counselors, and provided vocational advising for a diverse population of people facing employment barriers ranging from substance dependency to homelessness.
In her current role as the leader of LifeSTEPS, Beth Southorn oversees the delivery of supportive social services to approximately 70,000 families and seniors with low household incomes and who reside throughout more than 250 affordable housing communities. During her tenure as executive director of what is now the largest supportive social services provider to affordable housing residents in California, Beth Southorn has taken steps to ensure that the organization’s budget keeps pace with demand. Under her stewardship, LifeSTEPS programs implemented to prevent homelessness have helped 87% of those residents to remain in their homes after intervention.
